Roadshows and Latest SurveysRecycling and refuse customer satisfaction survey 2007/8

The Council recently surveyed members of the community to give them a say on how their waste is dealt with. We had a terrific response with over 2,500 questionnaires returned. To view the full survey findings or the sample questionnaire click on the thumbnails on the right.
The Council's Recycling Team also went out and about to find out how they could encourage more people to recycle household waste.Here are some of the areas higlighted in the survey and the actions the Recycling Team will be taking;
- Provide better recycling containers
Yellow bags are being replaced with larger ones with a full flap and velcro fastener to keep material in the bag. They will also be weighted to stop them blowing away on windy days.
- Reduce litter escaping from red boxes
Elasticated nets will be issued. These will need to be tied securely to the red box.
- Provide more information
Through the Council website and Vision, more infromation will be provided on what happens to all recyclable material we collect.
- Increase recycling awareness in schools
We have secured external funding for a temporary waste education officer to visit schools in the district over the next wo years.
Recycling Roadshows

This years Recycle Week theme was 'Just one more thing', and all around the borough from the 3rd-5th June North West Leicestershire's recycling team were on hand to advise residents of one more thing they could recycle. Top of the list were glass bottles and jars and aerosols which can be recycled at the kerbside or tetra-paks which can be recycled at Tesco Ashby, Morrisons Coalville, Co-op Castle Donington, and Co-op Ibstock.
The recycling team had a fantastic time during Recycle Week, answering all sorts of queries from waste reduction to compost bins, and speaking to over 1500 residents.
The team were on hand to supply residents with extra recycling containers and at the end of the week the team had given almost 3000 containers to residents to help increase their recycling efforts, especially with glass bottles and jars now collected at the kerbside.
